Gentamicin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It binds to the 30S ribosomal subunit in bacteria, disrupting the production of proteins essential for bacterial growth and function. This leads to the death of the bacteria, making it effective against various types of bacterial infections. Indications and Uses Gentamicin Sulphate is used to treat infections caused by certain susceptible bacteria, including: Respiratory infections: such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and other lower respiratory tract infections. Urinary tract infections (UTIs): caused by susceptible organisms. Soft tissue infections: including skin and wound infections. Septicemia: blood infections. Eye infections: in the form of eye drops or ointment. Infections caused by resistant bacteria: especially when other antibiotics are not effective.
